? hey!
I have been working out a lot recently, but the scale for some reason fails to show it. I weighed myself this week, and it said 139 pounds, off of 141.5 pounds. So, I seemed to have lost weight, and that is a GOOOOD SIGN!!!
But, I weighed myself today around midday, and it read 141 again!!!!!!!
Jeez, this is a turbulent game!
I don't know what to think. Have I really lost weight? Is my weight just fluctuating? Or am I making a mistake in my workout/diet approach????
So lost. So confused.
last time I attempted to lose weight, I lost 10 pounds in two weeks, that was achievement. My second attempt, now, is making me feel like a sloth.
hmmm...
thanks for all ideas,
jen Bee

Long term weighloss is slow (unfortunately :-( ) I believe that for people in weight ranges like you and I, we can expect to lose about 1lb a week (maybe 2 if you really reduce the amount you eat to a very low calorie intake).
About the weight fluctuation, you will find that many of us have a neurotic way of weighing ourselves. For example, I weigh myself a couple of times a day, but my morning weight is the one that tells me what I'm actually weighing. My afternoon weight is my guage of how much fluid I am retaining as the day goes on. I always weigh at least 1lb more by bedtime. Anyway, about my crazy ritual of weighing myself. First, I make sure I'm naked (no clothes to add weight) and have stripped off all jewelry and hair ties (LOL, each little ounce counts). I make sure to weigh myself first thing in the morning after I have gone to the bathroom (sometimes I try to go twice if I feel like I am holding water). I had considered doing the above after my exercise since the amount I sweated out reduces my weight further, but I don't get in a cardio workout daily (I sweat tons on those) so it might throw things off. So for now, that is the crazy way that I weigh myself.
In short, your scale isn't broken, it just fluctuates and that fluctuation frustrates everyone here :-P

Don't get too excited about short-term weight loss fluctuations, positive or negative. They're usually just water weight. The only losses/gains that mean anything appear gradually over the long term. Also, weight loss is 80% diet, 20% exercise, so if you're only exercising rather than cutting calories too, you might not see good results. It's how you do over a period of a few weeks that counts. I think Tonya is right about how much weight people in our range can reasonably lose--1 pound a week is doing good.

Might using tape measure and measure yourself once a week same time. You will see alot of difference if you are losing some pounds. I am learning not to depend on the scale anymore.

I try not to weight myself all that often. I tend to look at my weight loss in terms of how my clothes fit and how I actually feel. I think I would just go crazy if I were to try and constantly weigh myself. There are always fluctuations and I think that I would just lose my motivation if I were to deal with that!! Try not to focus too much on the numbers and just keep working out!!
