Hi Everyone! I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving.
I have one question about jogging during commerical breaks.
I read somewhere that if you jogged in place during commercial breaks you'd burn 45 calories if you were a 150 pound person. (if the typical commercial break is 5 minutes).
If this is so, then you could possibly burn about 250 - 300 calories just by watching your favorite tv show that's an hour long?
I was just wondering if this is a sensible idea sense I watch about 3 hours of tv everyday. hum ... I guess that would add up to about 550 - 600 calories. See, now that sounds to good to be true.
Take Care!

Actually if you walk briskly for 10 minutes and weigh around 160 you can burn around 71 calories so what you heard could be true the only problem I can forcast with this is that you don`t give your body proper warm up and stretches time, unless you still walk around the room when the show is on...But on the other hand if you watch an average 3hrs of t.v. per day ever considered putting an exercise tape, or watching a fitness programm for 1/2hr ? You would probably get a better end result....Leany

Thats not a bad Idea at all but you would have to be disciplined enough to do it. I had an Uncle who had stomach cancer and he used to walk around the kitchen table counting to 2000 he lived 30 days longer than Drs expected without a stomach before he died. My Dr says any form of exercise is good for you no matter when and how you do it so keep up those Commercial Jogging.

I think it is an awesome idea.. I'm goin to try it.. of course make sure you are running fast enough.. my treadmill tells you how much you are burning according to your wieght and age.. first.. I'm goni to have to tape my favorite shows from the satellite upstairs in my house while I do my homework, I'm in gr. 9, and then take the tape downs stairs when I finished and watch it on the tv in front of the treadmill.. or another way maybe for me.. is every so often while doing my homework I could jump up and go for a 5 min jog.. it would keep me energized.. hehe.. Thanks for the help.. I'm sure it will work.. Have a great day/night! pleasent thoughts! :Þ Katie

its another way to keep active..you couldnt possibly say 'i just used 45 calories in that add break' really because we dont know how each of us burns energy..it all comes down to intensity during that commercial break...i would do it for like a half hour show, doing it every day is a bit much for an hour esepcially if you do yeild the target of 500 odd calories plus your other cardio on top of that..you would be delving into overtraining...

Also, I think sometimes to a certain extent to get to the part where your burning 45 calories for every five minutes that you jog, you first had to warm up and jog prior to that for a few minutes to get the metabolism in gear. If you stand up and jog every time a commercial comes on you may burn some calories, but perhaps not as many calories as what you may in hte last five minutes of what was a 30 minute jog for example--because the further you get into that intensity of exercise, the more ramped up you get and then that is when things really start turning over an efficient burn of calories rate I would say. You'll burn more in the last five minutes than you did in the first five. :)
