The holidays are creeping up on us. Christmas dinner, Thanksgiving dinner, holiday parties - what are your plans to get through them?
Normally at Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner, I load up on ALL of it. But this year, like for Thanksgiving, I'm going to avoid gravies and rolls and biscuits and desserts. I'm going to try and fill up on turkey and vegetables mostly so I don't pig out on the mashed potatoes and high-calorie side dishes.
What are you plans for getting through holiday feasts?

Luckily I already went through that process last holiday season. I didn't get my panties in a twist over the situation.
On Thanksgiving morning I made sure I did my daily exercise, had my usual healthy breakfast and decided to focus on friendship vs. food. I also decided to use "portion" control (not deprivation) during the meal.
I went to a friend's home for dinner, so I had an apple before I left and skipped the before dinner snacks (chips, nuts, cheese). I had a little of everything I liked (including candied sweet potatos, gravy, mashed potatoes and stuffing). I ate my dinner slowly and SAVORED the taste of the food, BUT concentrated more on enjoying the company of family and friends. I had a sliver each of pumpkin and pecan pie and coffee. I found humor in how everyone who pigged out on the pre-dinner snacks and loaded their plate to overflowing (sometimes twice) sat around and moaned and groaned about how uncomfortable they felt. I returned home feeling satisfied and in control. I got up early the next day and did my exercises and continued on my healthy lifestyle plan--no biggie.

Oh dear... I forget about the holidays every year... I only remember them once I smell the scent of cookies, mashed potatos, and roasted chicken. (no one in my house likes turkey)
Hopefully I'll have a better grip on myself than I did last year. I have no plan though.
Maybe I can plan to take a sleeping pill on the big eating days... I can't eat if I am asleep! (I hope)
