I have a serious problem. I am 22 with a huge tire around my stomach and man breast. I am really trying to get it off fast. I want a six pack. What should I do, and am I being realistic? I'm 6 feet 220lbs. I just started jogging. I feel lik I need to starve myself to get it off my summer's end. When I tried to lift weights once two years ago, i landed in the hospital because i over did it.

First of all, welcome and congrats for making the decision to lose weight. As for your situation, here's what I would do. Start a weight lifting regime. DON'T OVERDO IT!!!! Weight train your ENTIRE body in conjunction with cardio. Change your diet so that you're drinking 2 litres (8 cups) of water/day and eat high protein, low fat foods, complex carbs only and LOTS of green veggies (fruit too, but becareful, fruit has a lot of sugar).
I"m using the Body For Life plan. I lost 42 lbs in 6 months on it, so I know it works. It's really great too cuz you get to eat 6 meals/day.
Anyway, you can check out their website if you like:

Best of luck!!

Lem,
First of all, don't be in a rush, because none of it happens fast, it takes time, you must be patient. If you start now and be faithful to your workouts and eating correctly you will have the body you want by summer. Do you eat well? What's your cardio like? I'll give ya this, you can do thousands and thousands of ab workouts and not see any change because you need to also eat well in order for the layer of fat to come off so you can see the definition. Try starting out easy, run for 10 minutes everyday for the first week, then each week add another 5 minutes, that has helped me. Go on the internet and find some different weight lifting excercizes, thats what I did, and I have been following it, it's something new, ya know? Also, watch what you intake. It can be dangerous. Try to stay away from white flour, added sugar, and carbs. DON'T stop eating carbs, just eat less carbs. I promise you, if you do those things, you will see a difference. I did that for 3 weeks and lost 10 pounds. I know you can do it!!! Don't give up, but don't expect to have it all happen overnight, because then you'll get discouraged, just let it take it's time, and you will see results. Take care, and let me know how it goes!!!!

Really, really at least check out the web site like Luna said. You will be so motivated by the success stories. I'm also doing the BFL program.

It won't work. Use the calorie calculators on the home page of this board and determine how many calories you need to comsume per day to maintain your current weight and subtract 500 from that and stick to it. You should lose one pound per week.

Man breast,
That is funny. Of course you are being realistic. You just happen to gain weight around your middle is all. Cut back on the calorie intake and start walking as much as you can. Give up the soda's and juice in place of water and try to replace the sweets with a cup of semi sweet tea everyday. Also you might want to add a low calorie protein shake to your diet once or twice a day as well. Set a daily calorie amount, make out a food plan that works for you and then just try not to exceed that amount every day. Good Luck!!!!

Hey you are pretty similiar to where i was 3 months ago. I am 6foot , i was 225, but had been an avid weight lifter in the past, but had let myself go. Was at like 25% bodyfat in jan.....Definate tire lol. I restricted myself to 1400cal a day for the first few weeks, and wasnt losing much at all, so i bumped it up to 2200 calories a day and stepped up my cardio. After i took off about 15lbs, i sacced cardio, and went back into lifting hardcore, and now my bodyfat % is down to 15%, in just under 3 months, which is pretty good....my goal is 8-10%, hopefully in 2 more months.
Id suggest doing what i did. Eat around 2000-2200 cal a day, and focus on cardio, and aerobic fitness at first(walking progressign into running). Then after you shed 10lbs or so , you can decide if you want to continue the cardio path, or the muscle path.
