yep i did...had football training on friday night (aussie rules football, the oval is more than 3 times the size as american football and we run for around 2 & 1/2 hours with only quarter breaks, none of your pansy changing defensive/offensive thing u guys got with guys fat and out of shape!!..haha...ok anyway) and i ran a lap sprinting...sure i have ran many times, no worries...run a very fast lap...and things went hazy and down i went...ate well during the day, had good carb content especially, drank lots of water, it was a beginning drill so there was no fatigue...so why did i collapse? so off to hospital i went when i came around a bit more...had an ECG done...blood pressure fine, HR fine but slightly 'funny'...either i have a virus that put me down (although i feel physically fine) or i have Wholff-Parkinsons White Syndrome...what this is is a little extra electro impulse from your aterial node in your heart...that little node has a pathway which recieves a response to beat, beat, beat, beat like that...WPW Syndrome people have another pathway that forms a loop so your arterial node is recieveing double time impulses so your heart beat is twice as fast....even though a resting heart rate will disguise it, apperently heavy exercise or stress/strain can bring on the fainting/dizziness/nausea type thing...apparently it is not hard to operate on, an overnight visit where they shove a scope up your femoral artery and 'kill' the extra loop in your heart so its note open heart stuff....but either way what a pain in the ass...i had this week off exercise bar cardio (was scheduled for a week off weights) and no im not supposed to do anything until i see my cardiologist which could be a long time under public health care cover...so im pissed off and going to lift anyway...just not above my head and probably have a light week...anyway just thought id share my interesting night (for me atleast) and pray i dont have this thing because its purely a pain in the ass!!...oh and if anyone are nurses or anything give us a shout on what u know of wholff parkinsons white, coz iv learnt this in a few hours so i might be wrong with something...anyway enjoy ur days/nights!

I do medical transcription for a living and have heard of Wolf-Parkinson-White syndrome, but, don't know enough about it to give you any advice -sorry!

But, doesn't it just suck when you're just getting to the fitness point you'd like when BANG - something just knocks you over!

I type for a living and, can type over 100 words a minute, faster than alot of people I know. In my line of work, production is a big thing, the more reports you type, the more you get paid. WELL, just when I was getting to the peak of my career - major bucks - I was diagnosed with RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS! If you don't know, rheumatoid arthritis majorly affects the hands - and I'm ONLY 35!! I still do medical transcription, but, I have to be very careful. I'm still making good money now, but, I know the day will come when my hands will fail and I won't be able to do this anymore.

See what I mean - just when you're at the top, something happens!

Keep us posted Gymmachine!!!

Please becareful, I am a nurse and your info was correct except for going against doctors advice... This can be a problem if your heart rate speeds up and does not slow down then you could have some real problems.
People with this do not know until it is found by accident on EKG or when heavy excertion has been done and a person can feel their heart racing or they pass out like you did.
take care

I'm praying you do not have this syndrome and that your "spell" was just a fluke.
Let us know what the doc has to say...

GymMachine - I know you're probably angry, frustrated, and a little scared, stop and think a minute. Is one week of training so much to give up just to ensure your future good health? Even if you do have this syndrome, and that's not a given at this point, from what you have said, it is very treatable. However, if you were to collapse again you might not be so lucky the next time around. Please just give it some thought.

I'll say a little prayer, too.

Welcome back!!!

I wondered where you were yesterday. Glad to hear that it was not too serious and that you lived to tell us all about it. And maybe you collapsed because it was too hot outside. What was the weather like that day?

Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome describes a heart rhythm problem which originates in the atria (the two upper chambers of the heart).

Doctors Wolff, Parkinson and White published the first article about this type of rhythm in 1930. This heart rhythm causes the heart to beat too fast (tachycardia). Sometimes patients may feel dizzy or nauseous during tachycardia, and fainting may occasionally occur. Medication may be used to slow the heart rate.

If medication fails to control the tachycardia, a procedure called radiofrequency ablation may be used. It's done in the cardiac catheterization laboratory under sedation or anesthesia. This involves inserting several specialized catheters into the blood vessels in the groin. These catheters can locate the origin of the abnormal heartbeats in the atrium. They abolish the rhythm using radiofrequency waves.

It is important for each patient to discuss questions and concerns directly with their cardiologist to understand how these recommendations apply to their specific case.

Hope this helps, and I hope you get better!!!
