okay, was partly lazy today BUT it was (Is) COLD and I did NOT want to do another 1-2 miles this evening. I did 3 miles this morning and I am happy that I did it. BUT I am totally scared that I will SLOWLY cut down on my workout & before I know it...I won't work out anymore, since winter is coming. I told myself...okay I have 3 months to make sure I don't gain EVERYTHING back!! It is soooooo! easy to gain everything back but I really don't want that to happen. Gary mention in one of his post "Losing weight is as simple as reducing calories and increasing exercise. If you eat less calories than you burn in a day you will lose weight." I would just like to know during winter time, if you don't workout alot (like maybe 45 mins only)...the rest of the day, I know I tend ot get bored and just want to eat. How will I survive? My goodness, I hate winter time!! At least sunny weather makes me want to do alot of moving.
HOW ARE YOU ALL GOING TO DO IT THIS WINTER? meaning get by in this cold weather. I know I don't like doing anything except sit on the couch and watch TV. Anyway, sorry to whine, but maybe if I get some ideas what you all will do, I can do it too. I kept thinking maybe I will start reading books again to keep my mind of food or sew....etc. I know I WILL try (REALLY TRY) to get up still at 5:00 a.m. and do 'at least' 3 miles. It is the rest of the day that worries me....eating when I am bored.
Thanks in advance. ~~Geri

I have a treadmill so I can use that indoors, but there are other exercises you can do indoors also, and just think of exercising in the Winter as a way to get warmed up faster :-)

One indoor exercise you can do is to walk up and down the steps for 15 minutes (if your current level of fitness allows you to) it is like having your own "stairmaster" :-)
Other indoor exercises include sit-ups, push-ups, pull-ups, lifting weights, jumping rope (if the ceiling is high enough :-) running in place, jumping jacks, walking from one end of the house to the other over and over.
You could also shop for a new or used stationary bicycle or treadmill.

Thanks to my hubby, I have all kinds of weights and exercise equipment to use. He thought he just had to have all this equipment (which was a financial burden at the time), and then I picked up a stair stepper at a garage sale, and then a recumbant bike. We have everything I need right in the house. Little did he know that I would be the one that ended up using it most. Well, maybe he did?
The downside, is that I have stuff everywhere. My piano studio has a dip station in it, we've converted our furnace room into a weight room. My family room has a stairstepper and all our bikes in it! (4 bikes, two are recumbants & take up lots of room) Our spare bedroom houses the exercise bike. But, a shed for the bikes has been promised, so that should help a lot.
So, I have NO EXCUSE for not exercising in the winter. LOL

Wow, you have your own indoor gym !!!!!
(Hey, I have heard of people somehow hooking a generator to exercise bikes to generate electricity when they exercise, that could help pay for it :-)

My suggestion to you, PetiteLady, is to join a running club and train for some goal- like a half marathon or 10k or something. It will make sure you get outside and get your training in, and you'll meet so many other people that share your interest in running. Plus, you won't lose your motivation to work out. I trained throughout two winters, and I loved it. Do you have a friend who would consider joining?
Something to look into, anyway! Good luck.
Tara
