Hello:
I joined a gym that is circuit training for women. I'm really enjoying it and putting in extra effert to lose 80#. I also had them design a diet for me which I'm not sure about. She said that I need about 2500 calories a day for my size and then as I lose the calories will decrease. But, 2500 calories? I'm used to having just 1000 a day. Seem like to much food and Not sure if I can eat it all. All advise

That does seem like a lot. Maybe she meant that in order to maintain your current weight you need 2500 calories. I recall in order to maintain my current weight I needed something like 2250 calories. In order to lose one pound a week you subtract 500 from that and to lose two pounds a week subtract 1000. Right now I am consuming 1200 calories a day to lose two pounds a week. Hope this helps.

wow, i can believe you only take in 1000 cal. that is so hard for me to do! the 2500 sounds like alot to me, but maybe she knows what she is talking about. maybe you aren't taking in enogh food (?) it's so hard to get enough food for fuel etc. but not too much to gain weight! how do you know enough is enough?? i just keep plugging along, hoping i'm not eating too much!

Food is your friend. 1000 calories seems way to low to maintain the activity level you seem to be after. Eat the calories, but eat smart. Make sure you're getting those vegetables etc... 2500 calories sounds like a lot, but it really isn't, if it's the right food. Eating helps increase your metabolism. You might consider bumping yourself up to 2000 calories a day and see how that feels. Just a thought!

I can believe that this is right actually. I have been doing exercise and every day of some kind for the past three months and have not lost much in weight but my muscles have become stronger and more defined underneath the fat layer.
I feel it is because I am burning so much off in exercise. ANY exercise that goes beyond an hour causes your body to make lot's of stress hormone (cortisol) and it can slow up the process of recovery for your body and in fact your going to put weight on when cortisol levels get too high as they slow down your metabolism big time. Sugar cravings occur too.
I think when you exercise every day and are burning off more than 250 calories, you don't need to cut back your daily allowance as much. When I did circuit training, I would get out of breath just doing that as it was none stop, and then I did my cardio after and it often exceeded an hour a the gym--my cortisol levels were possibly through the roof. I think it is best to keep it within an hour and work out exactly how many calories you likely to have burned. If it is High Intensity exercise too you continue to expend calories way after the exercise session so it can be tricky really getting your calorie levels so that they are at the right level to stop your body going into famine mode. I still haven't really founf the right level of calories after tinkering around for weeks and am now stepping up to 2000 per day to try that out.
