 Checking In

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to check in and let everyone know that I am feeling so much better. I have been able to get around a lot better with the increased activity. I have also been doing good with my breathing. I'm dealing with the reasons for my compulsive overeating and focusing on taking care of myself with the help from my Higher Power. I have not felt this good in a long time. Can someone explain the relationship between physical activity and mental health?

Georgie

Hi,

I simply had to respond to your lovely post since very clearly, dealing with the **reasons** for weight gain, is more important than temporarily eating less calories! I am so glad you're feeling better, and that physical activity is getting easier for you...way to go! As for exercise being good for our mental health, well, phsical activity releases hormomes in our brain similar to the hormones that are relesaed when we eat certain "comfy" carbohydrate foods. A walk will do as much for your spirits as a bit of your fav comfort carb food, and burns calories instead of adding them on! Best wishes to you, and happy holidays! Jus me

Hey Georgie!

I am so glad to hear that you are doing good!
I was just telling my husband yesterday that I feel soooooo much better after a good work out. I currently weigh 319 lbs and have lost 31 pounds since the first of September. Now, when I complete a work out I feel like I could turn around and go right back at it again. I feel so invigorated (sp) after a work out, where as I used to come in and plop down on my recliner and wish for a nap!

You are doing this the right way! Finding out WHY you were overeating and dealing with it. Also putting this in the hands of your "higher power". That will help you through too. I am facing marital issues right now, myself but I am NOT LETTTING THAT GET ME DOWN ! In fact, when the stress gets to be too much, I tell my hubby of nearly 12 yrs... "I am going to the gym. I'll be back in an hour." He doesn't mind me doing that because he wants me to want to better myself too. And when we are not in the same room together we can't argue! lol

Stay focused! Keep moving! You will succeed!!!!!

Hello, love! Good to hear your good news. Thanks for the emails. You are a great person, Georgie. Like Jus Me said, exercise releases endorphins in the brain and often endorphins are depleted when we have been depressed for extended periods of time. Also, a more temporary "high" comes from the increase of oxygen in the brain. There are probably a multitude of other reasons, but these are the main two. By the way, I have been doing better as well. Thanks for your encouragment. PS. Glad you liked the snow!!

Hi Georgie!!

Congrats on the overall feeling of "goodness".
I don't really know the correct terms but exercise also gets certain chemicals (bad choice of word) going. Like, the happy hormones. =)

I know that sounds silly, but I'm sure someone else can explain that better than I.

Take Care Tootse!!
Congrats once again!

You're doing great, Georgie. We're all pulling for you. I know when I started exercising regularly, so many problems just seemed to melt away. I don't get headaches all the time like I used to, I seldom get sick anymore, and like you said, life just seems better all around. I read somewhere that our bodies are designed for movement, and perhaps our well-being is tied to that need for action. Just my theory anyhow. Keep up the good work and keep in touch. You are an inspiration.
