Wel I am carbing up at the moment...going well---the macronutrients are different so it feels like I am cheating I guess---I am eating high glycaemic carbs--lower prtein and low fat...feels weird to br drinking skimmed milk in tea again but two "real" spoonfuls of sugar...more than makes up for the lack of cream. I sat drinking lime soda last night...most have the carbs should be in hte way of high glycaemic for the next 24 hours--but I am looking forwards to tucking into low fat ice cream later and stuff I can't normally eat in the ketogenic phases..within my calorie allowance that is! Yummy...

What I have been doing for the last two weeks is have on cheat meal on Saturday and one on Sunday. Last weekend for instance, my cheat was pizza and my Sunday cheat was barbeque chicken w/corn & macaroni. On Saturday I calculated my calorie intake at 2600 (was supposed to be lower but over indulged with my cheat meal).

....And even though i said i was sorry
to you..( And i am )..and Luna, i know you want to
bury my hatchet in my head. But, with that said, i will give you MY advice on so-calld " Cheat Days "

I too was afraid as hell to even consider these after starting a very healthy, and consistent eating pattern about 4 months ago. However, after talking to a very well respected nutritionalist, he said that, just like your body can get used to the same ole exercise routine after a while, so too can your body get used to constant, and continuous good food. He said one, and even two days out of the 7 days in a week are fine to " Pig-Out "...those were his exact words Melve. And, even though i had my reservations, i did it. I know have a " Whatever i want day on Saturday. And you know what has happened ?....It seems my weight-loss has actually increased. Also, i know this subject has been discussed by a few of you before but, when i was eating healthy ALL the time, i did go to the bathroom, however, i never really had a good, long sh!t...( Please, don't be offended by my use of that word )..but it's true. Now though, when i have say a whole pizza throughout saturday, the next day it seems i am flushing that right out of my system on saturday night and sunday. I also was told by this nutritionalist that IF, say 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours after i eat some fried food or pizza, if i follow that up with some FRESH Pineapple, or grapefruit/citrus fruits, it will increase the digestive process of that food, in other words, less of it's total fat/and or calorie total will stay in my body. That expert has to know his stuff Melve, cause i have litterly taken in over 4000 calories on certain saturdays, and have not gained a single pound. He said this is because after that
" Good Saturday meal ", my body totally re-starts the excellerated fat-burning process cause it thinks we are gonna treat it like this once again all the time. But in fact, we are not. We are going back to the healthy, low-calorie daily intake the very next day for the next 6 days. By the way everyone, just to show you all that i do NOT, totally kiss the A$$ of GymMachine here, even though i do respect him, hey GM, 1 slice of any pizza doesn't come close to 1,000 calories my friend. A complete Lg Pizza Hut stuffed crust pizza with 5 toppings and extra cheese has only 2800 calories for the whole pizza my friend..( This from not only their website, but from a seperate calorie-counter website that says 1 slice of pepporoni and sausage and cheese pizza has only 220 calories in it )

So GM, I love ya pal, but NOTHING in-and-of-itself has 1,000 calories in a single slice. So to everyone, i say, enjoy a day a week of pure indulgence, it will in the end, only help your weight-loss program cause you will stick on it the other 6 days, knowing you have your 1 day to look forward too.

Best of luck!!

I know for me personally, I always felt guilty about cheat days. However, last week, I decided I was burnt out and aloud myself to have a "cheat week" Now this week, I weigh two pounds (so far) less than I did before I had my cheat week. I am absolutely amazed at this. It seems almost too good to be true. But, I must say, that during that week, I enjoyed the food and yes even overindulged, but by the end of the week, I was craving to get back with the program. It gave me knew motivation. So, I too am now a believer in the "cheating" deal.

Please do not think that I hate you. You have your opinions and I respect that. I was pissed about what you said yesterday but since you apologized, I moved on. Thanks for responding and I have heard that before. The reason I split it up to one cheat meal on Saturday and Sunday is b/c weekends are so hard for me and I NEED junk on these days no exceptions. When I first started eating right and exercising in September, I was able to eat whatever I wanted all day Saturday and Sunday and still lose at least 2lbs a week. Then I had a long plateau in November causing me to take a break from it all especially since it was so darn close to the holidays. When I started back this month is when I decided to split my cheat days up.

Melve, eating on both Saturday & Sunday is totally no problem whatsoever. Especially since i know you are in all likelyhood, NOT eating a total troft of food. And, even IF you were, with 5 other days of that week eating good, non-fast-food and keeping your daily total calories at least 500, to 700 calories LESS than what is needed to maintain your weight that you want to be at, and considering you workout at least 4 to 5 times a week, there is no way in hell you would ever gain weight..( Unless it is weight caused by the loss of previous fat on your body, being replaced by Muscle )..but hey, that's a good thing. In my own case, i eat just on Saturday's cause, on sunday, i usually sleep pretty much all day in order to go to work right at midnight Sunday night/Monday morning..( Take your pick )..and if i ate alot of high-calorie foods, or junk on Sunday morning or afternoon, and then slept all late afternoon and evening, it really wouldn't be doing me any good. As where in your case Melve, even IF on Saturday and Sunday eating your so-called " Junk-Foods " i'll bet money you still are pretty active on those days, i.e., going out walking around/shopping, or maybe playing some tennis or something. Since i too am at the very least walking about and staying awake all day saturday afternoon and night, that is why i feel safe to pig-out, cause i will constantly be in motion, and my motabolism will be pumping.

2 days a week is fine, especially for someone who is dedicated as you are about getting that regular exercise during the week.

Well right now I am doing 40 minutes on the elliptical Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays. On Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays I weight train for 50 minutes in the am then in the pm come home and do 20 minutes of cardio maybe using a dance tape or the elliptical. From the beginning to the middle of this week, I've been consuming 1200 calories. Wednesday I did a little experiment and upped my calories to 1500 and lo and behold, I lost a pound. I was excited to get off of that darn 158.

Melve, definitely. If you are that active, well, i don't really know your Sex, or age or weight but yeah, i would definitely up your daily calories during your 5 good days of eating. Even IF you were a girl, say 30 years old, and currently weigh say, 140 Lbs, and wanted to get down to a good, and solidly built 125 Lbs, because of all that time doing cardio and weight training, i'd say your body requires at LEAST 16 Calories..( Probably more like 18 though )...per Lb of what you eventually want to weigh. So, say you eventually want to weigh 125 Lbs Melve, you would have to average 2,000 daily calories, or, 14,000 calories per week just to maintain a weight of 125. Seems hard to believe huh
girl but it's true. Even the most stationary, or sedentary person requires about 13 calories per pound of body weight to maintain their weight. That figure goes up the more active you are Melve. The reason you lost that quick pound after upping your daily calories to 1,500 was because your body thanked you by upping it's motabolism. I'll bet if you raised it during your non-cheat days to say 1850 a day, you would see even more results. But that routine is not an easy one Melve, you are advanced, and you should reward yourself with more GOOD daily nutritional calories during the week.

Just my opinion.

Are you sitting down? I eat an entire half gallon of Healthy Choice icecream every friday! Have been since June 2002...and I've lost slowly/consistantly since then (29.5 lbs thus far). It definately helps me say no the rest of the week!

I've actually thought about that but I am afraid to do so. Maybe one week I will give that a try but for right now I think I will stay at 1500. For the record, I am a 26 year old female that is currently 157 trying to get down to 130. I started out at 172. Dee, who doesn't come around to the board anymore, told me to up my intake from 1200 to either 1500 or 1800. She had a great weight loss and I believe she was at 1800 but I'm scared of that. I don't feel I will get the results I want but I could be wrong.

I just eat what I want on cheat days, but I don't usually overindulge. If I want ice cream, I'll have it, but maybe only one small scoop. I take my time and really enjoy it, and I find that's enough. One word of caution - I read a story about a woman who was losing weight on a low-fat diet, and on her cheat days she would let herself indulge to the max. Now this was a large woman, and I guess she really could indulge, because when she calculated her caloric intake on one of her cheat days, she had consumed over 8,000 calories (I kid you not!). Now I know that you're not likely to go that far, but it served as a reminder to me that I didn't want to undo all my good work during the rest of the week by undoing in all in one day with overindulgence. So, my advice - indulge, but in moderation.

I agree with the moderation comment, especially for those of us who seem to lose so slowly! Part of any weight loss program is learning to live with less for the rest of our lives. Incorporating all kinds of foods and accepting new reduced portions is a kind of challenge in itself. Becoming truly satisfied with less is a skill that requires practice.

I agree w/the idea of moderation and balance. That's why I employ those techniques. Even all the icecream I eat is a form of balance for me. It is one day, one time I "choose" to over-indulge. Does that make sense? Like I said I'm still losing weight. I don't mind at all that it's slow as long as it is consistant. If the day should come that I am no longer losing weight or can not get past a plateau, then I will adjust whatever I need to accordingly (even the icecream). Does that make sense?

I'm not trying to justify..just explain. Forgot to mention...I adjust my other calories that day to compensate a little. I'd say my usual calorie intake for my friday cheat days around....27-2800 calories.

It makes perfect sense to me. One of the things I try to do is not think of foods as good or bad. They are food and some of them I like more than others. The ones that I truly enjoy I work into my eating plan occasionally-in moderation-so that I can eat like this for the rest of my life.

If you choose to work ice cream into your food plan-fine. There are some foods that I have real trouble with portion control so I try to avoid them for the most part. But, when I feel that I am in control, I work things in just for the pleasure of eating them.

I don't think we were put here to suffer 24/7. I think that you are handling the situation in a positive, constructive way. Good luck!

Maybe someday...right now I'm not ready. I know I would feel deprived. I enjoy this OVERindulgence once a week. Want to know what I used to eat in icecream? I used to go to the store two sometimes three times a week and eat a half gallon of Reese cup icecream!!! Healthy Choice is has 16 servings at 120 calories each. I can't remember what the Reese's had but it was waaaaaaaaay more!! And fat grams? Don't ask!
I don't know why I like icecream so much? Maybe it has something to do w/the fact that I've never liked milk...ever. Maybe it's just goooood!
Someday it may be a quart? Maybe...
Besides eating more icecream...you'd keel over if I told you all the other sweets I would eat during a typical week. Looking forward to friday helps me say no to all of those as well. Like I said maybe someday...
