 Carbs???

My husband has gone on a diet where he is restricting his carbs. He's done O.K. so far, losing about 10 lbs in a month. He's cut out bread, rice, potatoes etc..., but does allow a "treat" once per week. I've tried this, but I really crave the bread or pasta. Is it O.K. to have this stuff, like say, once per day, or is there a better way? I've been trying to find a site on the internet that tells me how many grams of carbs in a day I can safely have without adverse effects. Does anyone know of any info sites on this?
Thanks

your husband will put the weight back on i would say..cutting carbs is silly because carbs give us our energy to do every day things...what he has lost on the scales is muscle, im pretty sure of that...it wouldnt be fat because your body values fat more than muscle...so by cutting carbs, his body has gone to his muscle stores as energy and started breaking them down..he will end up a smaller yet still plumper(if the case may be) version of himself. To prove it take a body fat % measurement and take regular readings if u can. U can get it measured at gyms. His diet sounds like that of the Atkins diet...bad bad bad..u know u cant cut carbs forever they r too important to the bodies functions...what will happen when he is off this diet?...weight will come back on and then some i guarentee it..please get him off this diet and use some of the advice givin in these posts to set him a little straight...im sure he doesnt want to lose muscle but he wants to lose fat..diet alone wont do this in the long run...exercise combined with smaller, frequent healthier meals with a slight caloric deficit will get him more positive results of fat loss and not muscle loss..

Hey, I was looking for the same thing when I saw your e-mail. I have been doing the same kind of diet for 5 months know. It involves a protein shake and vitamin supplements to provide me with the vitamins my body will need because im cutting out all the carbs. But, with this diet, you are allowed to eat certain fruits that can help you to control those cravings. Like you, i still ate some carbs during the week, like 3 times a week & weekends. My wheight loss was slower, but i did loose wheight. I lost 30 lbs within these months and have not gained anything back. I believe that a low carb, high protein diet is safe when you want to loose wheight, then after you have reached your goal, you can slowly go back to adding some carbs to your diet and following a healthy diet like GymMachine mentioned before so you won't gain back all the fat and keep your lean muscle.

Once glycogen dips under a certain level, ketones kick in to fuel body. Ketones has muscle preserving effect. I lost 5% bodyfat doing low carb.
