Hi! all,
Can someone explain to me 'Why?' I still see myself big? When or how many pounds do you have to be to realize 'oh! I look skinny?' Do you all know what I am saying. I took pictures of me and they tell me that I am getting there but when I look in the mirror....I still see myself in the mirror. Anyway, if you know what I am saying....maybe you can explain it to me.
Wish I can get out of my body and check for myself - how I look like. Oh well! Thank you in advance.

Hi Geri,
I can't say what is going on with you but I went through it when I was at my lowest weight and had lost a bunch. It's distorted self body image. Sometimes time is all that is needed to get adjusted to the new you. Some people are surprised that after all the effort of losing weight the new attention/ way people look at you is difficult to deal with. But if it becomes really bothersome (coupled with fear of gaining the weight back, obsessive calorie counting, over exercising) you may want to see someone about it. From what I understand and was told these are all signs that you could be developing an eating disorder. I am no professional by any means, but from personal exeprience this is what I had been told.

Well, I definitely can't help you because I weigh 258 lbs. now and when I look in the mirror I feel skinnier. I know that I am far from skinny, but I am pretty sure that if I weighed 116 I would definitely believe that I was. I'm not sure what makes people feel like you do, but my hubby is the same way. It doesn't matter what his weight is, he feels fat. So, I think it is some kind of anorexic mentality that happens to some people. I know he has it and it drives me crazy sometimes. It is hard to understand when people who are really small say that they feel fat. Hopefully you know deep inside that you are not fat girlfriend! I just read what I wrote and I see that I didn't help you at all, BUT, I do understand that what you are feeling happens because I live with someone who is like that. Not sure how to help but I do hope that you can get past it!

Hi! Renee,
>> It is hard to understand when people who are really small say that they feel fat <<
I am a tiny lady and being at 4'9 I am suppose to be somewhere between 92 (I think) and 111 pounds...so I still have 5 more pounds to get to until I know I am consider not overweight. I am just trying to lose it because I want to be healthy for my 5 kids and want to be around them for a long time. Hubby tells me that I don't need to lose anymore but I guess I still see myself as being 136 pounds. Maybe I can get me those big long mirror and really look at myself. I only have the mirror that shows from my head to my waist. Better start window shopping.

Geri, I think it would be a great idea to get a full length mirror so you can see just how great you look! I do understand that your feelings are real and you still feel like you are big, but I am betting that you look like a million bucks. What are you waiting for? Go get that mirror! Celebrate!

Hi..... when I was smaller and put the weight on, it happened gradually. I could feel the pounds when I would put something on and it no longer felt the same. But, when I looked in the mirror, I thought I looked the same. The gain happens slowly, and so does the loss. So far, I have only lost 18 pounds, and people I haven't seen in a while have told me that they can see the difference. When I look in the mirror.... I look the same. I think it is because we are looking each and every day. You should look back at a picture and that would be the best way to compare. When we look every day, we are only remembering the last time we looked. How can we see a pound or worse yet.... a half pound. But, add all those together and that should be noticable. I have the opposite problem. I feel like I used to when I was thin. So when I look in the mirror, I am shocked and wondering how I didn't notice an extra 100 pounds sooner!!!! Good Luck Petite.

OMG, what you said is sooooo me! I think it was about 5 years ago that I looked in a mirror and really saw for the first time how much weight I had gained. Before that, I never realized it, even though my clothing size went from a normal size 12/13 to a size 22W. I know for some people it is hard to believe that is possible, but it happened to me. The day that I really saw myself for the first time was very traumatic. My hubby thought I was losing my mind because I kept saying, "OMG, I am HUGE, I am so fat", I was crying and I couldn't stop. He never realized that I didn't see myself for what I had become. Of course he loves me no matter what I look like, but he asked me if I had never saw myself in the mirror in all of the time that I had been gaining weight and I told him that I hadn't. He just held me and told me that it was okay because I could change it if I didn't like it. He believes in me waaaaaay more than I do. Until now! Well, maybe even now, but I am still going to change it if it kills me!
