All of a sudden I way 160 pounds. It just kinda snuck up on me. I'm in shock. I've been reading the posts and have decided to put what I have learned into action. I am 27 at 5 foot 5 inches. Interval training is a little confusing. How long are the intervals? How many should I do? Thanks everybody......Happy Halloween Ang

Interval training, is cardio done at a high intensity, for a short amount of time. This is an example of interval training that I got out of a fitness magazine. I have been using it for months, and it does work, trust me.
- Warm up for 5 minutes gradually increasing your speed to 50% of your max speed.
- At 5 minutes, go your max speed for 15 seconds.
- After 15 seconds, drop down to 50% max again for 2 minutes.
- After 2 minutes at 50% max, go again for 15 seconds at 100% max.
- Repeat this for 6-10 reps (meaning you do your max speed 6-10 times).
- After you have done your last max rep, do a cool down at a slow pace for 3 minutes.
- It takes me 19 min 30 sec if I only do 6 reps. (that will vary depending on your speed)
- You can also vary that a little as I do. Ex: I will put the treadmill at full incline, when I do my max speed sometimes. Also, your body will begin to adjust to your speeds, so you will gradually have to increase your speeds. I am currently about 1 notch from having the treadmill speed as fast as it will go. Never thought I could do that!
That was just an example if you want to use a treadmill. You can use the same basic principle on any cardio machine.

Basically, max speed is how fast you physically feel you can run. You just raise the speed of the treadmill to as fast as you can physically go. You really just figure it out naturally. There is no set way of figuring it out. Your body will let you know :)
