Hey my name is Perla and i am 18 years old. I have been overwieght for most of my life and i it. It has gotten to the point of wanting to kill myself because i cant take it anymore. Right now i have this wonderful man in my life. He is totally my world. He recently asked me to marry him. We are supposed to be married in four months as soon as he returns from his business trip to ohio. I want to surprise him and i want to be thin (i weigh 240) by the time he gets back. I think he deserves to be married to a beatiful healthy . Because right now i am not very healthy. I am at high risk for everything. I cant imagine him having to spend all his time at the hospital with me. And the doctor told me that all my health issues would be resovled through weight loss. I have tryed so many things to lose weight but i gain it back and then some. Please if anybody out there can help i would really appreciate it. I know that i have to put forth alot of effort. I know that no one can do this for me but i need a push. Please everyone pray for me.

Start by exercising to built up energy and self confidance and then add the food intake stuff...I find that by starting with the exercises you built a foundation for your weightloss and at the same time built good habits that will stay...Check out your local ywca or ymca if they offer some low impact aerobics or cardio classes to get you started, or any reputable place that will guide you into starting an exercise programm that is right for you....Good luck....fattybutt

Hi Perla,
Congratulation on your engagement!
Don't think that you don't deserve your fiance because of your size... He loves you for who you are, and the marriage is for better or for worse...
You are right about the connection between excess weight and health risk. To decrease your risk for many diseases, you need to lose weight. But you should do it not for other people, but for YOURSELF.
Healthy weight loss is gradual. There is no way to lose fat quickly. You did not gain all this weight overnight, so you can't expect to lose it quick either. In order to lose weight in a healthy way and KEEP IT OFF, you need to do it slowly, no more then 1 - 2 lbs a week.
Temporary diets don't work. Sure, people lose some weight on them, but then they GAIN IT BACK after they quit the diet and go back to their regular eating habits.
You need to make a permanent lifestyle change to incorporate healthy eating and increased activity. It is a lifelong commitment.
You will not become THIN in 4 months, it takes much longer then that. But you can definately become THINNER by that time, and then continue your weight loss journey so one day you'll reach your ideal weight.
To get started, incorporate these small changes into your lifestyle:
* avoid soft drinks and drink water instead
* cut down on red meat, and eat skinless chicken breast instead
* use lean ground turkey instead of ground beef
* cook more at home instead of going to restaurants
* get low-fat recipes cookbook and cook some recipes from it
* eat smaller portions
* keep yourself busy. When you are occupied, you are less likely to snack just because of boredom
* incorporate exercise into your life. If you can't make yourself do intensive exercise, just go for a walk every day, or do small things such as taking the stairs instead of elevator, park your car at the far end of parking lot, etc.
Good luck!
Melanie

I think you should start with talking to your doctor.....................Than start with an exercise program probably in the swimming pool.............that would not alone be fun and easy form of exercise to start with but easy on your movements........maybe join the gym where all the class are in an aerobic water class..................................But you should discuss how you feel with the medical doctor first, he/ she will be your best guide....................Good Luck

There is no diet or weight loss program that will help you. However, major sustained lifestyle changes will. This means that you have to make a major commitment to changing your lifestyle for good - not just until you lose the weight. You need to ask your doctor whether or not the following recommendations are appropriate for you:
1. Exercise every day. At first you may only be able to walk for 10 minutes - but make it your goal to work up to walking 30-60 minutes every single day of the week. You need to sweat.
2. Get refined foods out of your diet. Shop the perimiter of the store. Learn how to cook. Buy fresh fruits and vegetables, flourless breads, stop eating dairy products for awhile (substitute soy/nut/rice products with added calcium), stop eating wheat and corn for awhile too, stick to white meat turkey, chicken, and eat fish. Buy whole grains - brown rice, spelt berries, quinoa, millett. No refined grains for awhile - white rice, conventional bread, etc.
I know these sound like big changes but if you want to change your body - you have to do it.

I used to have to think about being healthy all the time. It seemed like a lot of work to shop, cook, exercise, etc. But after awhile, it just becomes your life. You don't think about cooking dinner - buying fruits and vegies, choosing the better choice - it's automatic. But it takes years to learn this. It will be hard at first, but eventually you won't even know you're doin git.

Hi Perla,
I'm Christine and I'm 24 years old. I would like to suggest a few things to you if I may. I understand that you would like to lose weight. I recently have been struggeling with my weight. I am 5'3 and weigh 145 lbs. I have recently lost 5lbs in the last week or so. I would like to suggest taking Apple Cider Vinegar tablets. They are a fat burner and they do seem to work with exercise of course! What they do is make you sweat more than average and naturally you burn fat. you can buy Apple Cider Vinegar at a health food store and they are not very expensive. I would also like to suggest you exercising for up to half an hour every day five times a week! This is key!!! Perhaps you could do some water aerobics or maybe even a half an hour walk. Hey, I have recently started to walk with my mother and I feel really good!!!!!! I would like to be about 130lbs because I am petite. Now listen Perla..... You have a man that loves you no matter what! Beauty comes from within and you are a beautiful person!!!! You must love yourself and nuture yourself. I have some insights on how to eat better. Please drink lots and lots of water!!!! This is key because water flushes out toxins and helps burn fat!!!!! Eliminate all junk food at once! If you want to be healthy you must eat healthy. For breakfast you could have "Special K" w/ non fat milk and absolutely NO SUGAR!!! If you still feel hungry then go ahead and have 1/2 of a banana. For a snack have the other half of the banana with one cup of non fat yogurt any flavor. For lunch go ahead and enjoy a sandwhich (i love subway) with a cup of soup or something like that. For another snack have an Orange or Kiwi or any fruit of your choice. I also suggest you take a woman's muti-Vitamin (i like Rainbow light) they are a little pricy but VERY VERY GOOD! and then for dinner have a chicken breast with rice or potato and 2 veggies of your choice, and the veggies are good steamed!!!!!!!!!!! and then before you go to bed if you're hungry enjoy a health valley granola bar (non fat) with 1 cup of non fat milk. That's what I do and I've lost 5lbs in the last week! I do vary my food daily but this is just to give you an idea. Good luck and please email me for more info...... and please let me know how you're doing.

Gillian4fun -
I think you should know that apple cider vinegar (pills or otherwise) cause moderate to severe constipation in some (and that includes me). With your diverticulitis, I don't think this might be a very good idea.
