Hi,
Well, here's August, and the hottest month of the year around here, so I've had to modify my outdoor early morning exercise, and I think it is really important not to get too overheated. This morning, there was no cloud cover from the marine layer we get earlier and later in the year, so the sun was up, the sidewalks were hot, and I was a sweaty mess inside of 5 minutes. I've decided that joggong continuously for 20 minutes, and then running really fast up and down a set of concrete steps for 10 minutes, is just too much under our pal "August Golden Sun", so for this month, and the first part of September (when we sometimes get hot, dry winds called Santa Ana Winds that really heat things up) I've decided to jog for 5 minutes, walk briskly for 5 minutes, run for 5 minutes, and power walk for 5 minutes. After that, I'll take the steps a lot easier (instead of running up and down as fast as I can) and just do whatever I can on the steps in a 10 minute period, before the nice cooling (under our trees for the most part) 5 minute walk back to the house. I hate to sound like a wimp, but I do think working up too much of a sweat under an August sun is a bit dangerous, and I wonder if any other of you who are outside joggers, power walkers, and cyclists are also planning on amending your workout this month?? Cool walking/running everybody, Cheers, Dee
